Event Risk Management

Overview

Built on decades of experience

Event Risk Management is RMI’s dedicated division for the planning, control and delivery of safe, well-governed events – sitting alongside RMI Shield’s executive protection work as part of the same risk management group.

We have supported corporate events, sporting fixtures, mass gatherings and bespoke VIP projects for decades, working with promoters, venues, local authorities and rights holders to turn an event concept into a plan that can be delivered, governed and defended.

Our role is to sit alongside the organiser from the earliest planning meeting through to the final debrief, translating risk into a working operational picture that stewards, gardaí, emergency services and contractors can all read from the same page.

We provide security management plans, security risk assessments, transport plans, contractor management and control room support, and can supply a team to meet the needs of any project — from a single-day corporate function to a multi-day mass-participation event with a footprint spanning several local authority areas.

Every engagement is built around the event itself: its site, its audience, its licensing conditions and the risks specific to that day, rather than a template pulled from the last job.

What We Deliver

Services

Engagements can start as early as concept design or be brought in for a single element — an event controller for the day, or a table-top exercise ahead of a licence application.

01 Event Management Plan development & review

Drafting or reviewing the core EMP that a local authority, licensing body or venue will hold you to — written so it stands up to scrutiny and to the day itself.

02 Event risk assessment
Structured,site-specific risk assessment covering crowd, structural, environmental, transport and contractor risk, with mitigations that are actually workable on site.
03 Security management plans
Theoperational security plan for the event — access control, search policy, stewarding ratios, response protocols and escalation routes, set out for every role on site.
04 Event controllers
Experienced controllers to hold overall command of the event on the day, coordinating stewarding, security, medical and emergency services from a single point of authority.
05 Safety & risk officers
On-site safety oversight throughout build, live show and breakdown, monitoring conditions against the plan and standing ready to advise or intervene.
06 Security co-ordination
Coordinating stewarding and security contractors, briefings, deployments and shift patterns so the plan on paper matches the team on the ground.
07 Transport management planning
Transport plans covering access, egress, parking, shuttle operations and last-mile movement — built to keep both the event and the surrounding road network moving.
08 Contractor management
Coordination and oversight of the wider contractor base – stewarding, security, medical, traffic management and site services – under one risk-managed structure.
09 Table-top exercises
Scenario-based exercises that pressure-test the plan and the team before the event opens, surfacing gaps while they’re still cheap to fix.
10 Control room management
Staffed control room support for the live event, providing a single point of information and decision-making across all functions for the duration of the operation.

How We Work

The APPLE method

Every engagement follows the same five-stage method, whether we’re planning a single-day corporate function or a multi-agency mass-participation event.

We start by understanding the event itself — site, audience, licensing conditions and the specific risks that come with them — before a single mitigation is written down.
Assessment findings become the working documents: the EMP, the security management plan, the transport plan and the risk register that the event will run on.
Briefings, resourcing, table-top exercises and control room set-up — making sure every person on site knows the plan before the gates open.
Ongoing coordination with An Garda Síochána, local authorities, emergency services and venue stakeholders, so the plan is agreed and understood, not just submitted.
Delivery on the day — event controllers, safety officers, security coordination and control room management — with the same team that built the plan running it.

Where we've worked

Experience

Corporate events, sporting fixtures, mass gatherings and bespoke VIP projects, at scales from a single venue to a city-wide operation.

Corporate events

Conferences, product launches, AGMs and executive functions requiring a discreet, professional footprint..

Mass gatherings

Multi-day festivals, marathons and public events spanning several local authority areas and agencies.

Sporting events

Stadium and venue operations, from league fixtures to one-off finals with heightened crowd and media interest.

Bespoke VIP projects

State and high-profile visits requiring close coordination between event, security and transport planning.

Our controllers and planners have worked on some of the country’s largest and most complex operations — including a Papal visit to Ireland, UEFA Europa League Final operations, Special Olympics Ireland, and last-mile transport planning for the Dublin and Cork marathons — alongside a steady flow of corporate, sporting and community events year-round.

Why RMI

Why engage RMI Event Risk Management

One team, start to finish

The people who build your event risk assessment and management plan are the same people who run your control room on the day – no handover, no gaps in institutional knowledge.

Command under pressure

Our event controllers and safety officers are experienced in holding a live operation together when conditions change – weather, crowd behaviour, an incident – not just writing the plan for a calm day.

Multi-agency fluency

We know how to bring An Garda Síochána, local authorities, emergency services and venue stakeholders into one plan they’ll actually sign off on and stand behind on the day.

RMI Event Risk Management operates alongside RMI Shield and RMI’s wider risk management, crisis management and security consultancy services – giving clients a single group to call for anything from a one-day event to ongoing executive protection.
